At First Sight

This week's Trifecta challenge is to write a 33-word follow-up to this snippet:

The first time I saw. . .
The piece should be exactly 38 words, and all words must be one syllable each.

The first time I saw you, I fell hard.

Big feet, red face, head cone shaped.

You were just right.

Now here you are ...

Huge feet, peach fuzz, your dad’s bowed legs.

You are just right.

My son.

As my first born turns 14 this week, I wonder what happened to that chubby little boy who arrived on his due date (albeit after 24 hours of labor). Now he's all legs and I can count his ribs. Sigh. In a flash, I went from picking him up to looking up at him.

Fortunately, he hasn't completely changed ...

  1. I love this. My little baby boy is now well over 6 foot and I fit under his chin.

    1. Thanks, Tara! So you feel my pain. My son thinks it's hilarious that he's so much taller than I am. But I can still scare the @#$&% out of him with my "mom look." ;)

    1. Yikes! I hope "cutesy" has a different connotation in the UK. Lol! Thanks for stopping by. :)

  4. ah, to keep them small longer - without the diapers & the cone heads, of course

  5. Oh this is what happens... luckily...

  6. there is nothing that compares with that kind of "first love", nothing in the whole wide world.

This was, from one mom to another (and one friend to another), a beautiful testament of how a mom's heart never forgets those moments.

    sigh.
    Hugs.
    Love.

  8. Just beautiful, ivy! Relish and enjoy. My baby boy is 20 and 1/2 and I still remember...

  9. They grow up way too quickly! Your words evoke so much nostalgia.

  10. This is so sweet! The transformation happens right under our noses, but still it's hard to believe where the time as gone (my "baby" turned 8 last week. Can't be!)

  11. Just as it should be, Ivy. Sweet.
Although I was a little worried, only briefly, by what I thought would be a retro conehead episode.
But you are too young to remember them, aren't you?

  12. The love we have for our children is like no other. You captured that very well. My guess is that your son will always be "your baby". He is lucky to have you for his mom. :)

  14. Very sweet. At first the cone-shaped head threw me, but then it all made sense.

  15. Yes. Parenthood. I love its subtle nuances. You can never tell what will happen next!

  16. Ah, time sure flies when you're a parent. There's nothing like seeing your kids grow into fine individuals. But deep down inside, they will be always your baby.

  17. I like the before/after in this. Great work.

  18. Awww.............. great photos. I can imagine somewhat your situation. My oldest will be 12 this July and she is the same height as me, wears larger shoes, and stands looking me eye to eye. Since she is only in 6th grade her doctor said she'd probably be around 5'8 which is considerably higher than my 5'4 and 1/2. Time seems to fly and stand still all at the same time. My youngest turned 8 last Monday and I was thinking when did she grow up too? lol.. Very wonderful post.
I also nominated you for The Sunshine Award. Given to bloggers who keep me coming back. I know the whole award thing can be tiring because of the "rules" of answering questions, nominating others, informing them all, and then asking questions. So, I won't be offended if anyone just simply accepts the award. It's on my WordPress blog at http://donettas.wordpress.com
